Privacy Policy for CaloScan
Effective Date: 19 June 2026
CaloScan is a nutrition and calorie tracking app that helps users estimate calories, macronutrients, supplement information, water intake, and food details using camera scans, barcode scans, manual entry, and nutrition databases.
This Privacy Policy explains what information CaloScan collects, how it is used, and how users can manage their data.
1. Information We Collect
CaloScan may collect or process the following types of information:
- Food, meal, calorie, protein, carbohydrate, fat, and nutrition log data entered by the user
- Supplement, herb, protein powder, and vitamin log data entered or scanned by the user
- Water intake and hydration log data
- Barcode numbers scanned by the user
- Photos or camera images selected or taken by the user for food, water, or supplement analysis
- App settings, goals, reminders, preferences, and saved items
- Basic technical information needed for app functionality, security, and backend requests
CaloScan does not intentionally collect sensitive medical records, doctor records, or clinical diagnosis information.
2. Camera and Photo Access
CaloScan may ask for permission to access your camera or photo library so you can scan food, drinks, supplements, barcodes, or other nutrition-related items.
Images are only used when you choose to scan or upload something. Images may be sent to CaloScan’s backend server or third-party analysis providers to return nutrition estimates and scan results.
3. How We Use Information
We use collected information to:
- Analyse food, drink, barcode, supplement, and water scans
- Estimate calories, macros, ingredients, serving sizes, and nutrition values
- Track daily intake, supplements, hydration, and nutrition goals
- Save user preferences, goals, reminders, and logged items
- Provide AI-generated nutrition suggestions and summaries
- Improve app functionality, performance, reliability, and user experience
- Protect the app and backend from unauthorised or abusive requests
4. AI and Third-Party Services
Some CaloScan features may use third-party services to process scan requests and return results. These may include AI analysis providers, barcode databases, food databases, nutrition databases, supplement information sources, cloud hosting providers, and Apple services.
For example, when you scan a meal, image or text data may be sent to an AI service so the app can estimate calories and nutrition values. When you scan a barcode, the barcode number may be checked against external product or nutrition databases.
CaloScan uses a backend server to help protect API keys and process scan requests. API keys are not intended to be stored directly inside the mobile app.
5. Data Storage
CaloScan may store app data locally on your device. If you enable cloud syncing features, some data may also be stored or synced using Apple services such as iCloud.
Local app data may include nutrition logs, supplement logs, water logs, goals, reminders, saved items, and app settings.
If data is stored locally, deleting the app may remove locally stored data unless it has been backed up or synced through your device or Apple account.
6. Account Information
CaloScan may use Apple-related services such as Sign in with Apple or iCloud if enabled in the app. If Sign in with Apple is used, Apple may provide a private relay email address instead of your real email address, depending on your Apple settings.
7. Health and Nutrition Disclaimer
CaloScan provides estimates only. Food scans, barcode scans, supplement scans, water scans, calories, macronutrients, ingredients, serving sizes, and health-related information may be inaccurate or incomplete.
CaloScan does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Information in the app should not replace advice from a doctor, dietitian, pharmacist, nutritionist, or other qualified health professional.
Users should verify nutrition labels, supplement labels, allergens, ingredients, and medical advice before making health, diet, supplement, or medication decisions.
8. Supplements and Safety
Supplement, herb, vitamin, mineral, and protein powder information shown in CaloScan is for general informational purposes only. Supplement effects, safe dosages, interactions, and suitability can vary between individuals.
Always check with a qualified health professional before starting, stopping, or changing supplements, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, under 18, taking medication, or have a medical condition.
9. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data.
We may share limited data with service providers only when needed to operate the app, such as processing scan requests, hosting backend services, syncing data, checking barcodes, analysing images, or improving app reliability.
10. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect app data. However, no app, website, server, or internet transmission is completely secure.
11. Data Retention
CaloScan keeps user data only as long as needed to provide app functionality, comply with legal obligations, resolve issues, or improve the app. Locally stored data remains on your device unless deleted by you, removed by the app, or affected by device backup and sync settings.
12. Deleting Your Data
You can delete app data from within the app where deletion features are available. You may also delete the app from your device to remove locally stored app data, subject to your device backup and iCloud settings.

13. Children’s Privacy
CaloScan is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
14. International Users
CaloScan may use service providers located in different countries. By using the app, you understand that information may be processed in locations outside your country or region.
